Passive Smoking
could be History
by the founder of PrimusNo.1® and AcceptableChoice Jørn W.Phigalt
From the moment the first tobacco leaves was ignited, there have been passive smoking and the battle have been between the smokers and the non-smokers ever since. Today’s new technology opens the possibility to make passive smoking history, but of course this cannot happen overnight. Instead of burning the tobacco leaves with a high and damaging temperature that releases cancer and harmful substances, the electronic cigarettes can give the same quality for smokers and free others for passive smoking – all through new micro technology and an electro-thermal vaporizations process.
The Dilemma
Politician thinks of the issue from different perspectives – someone is deeply concerned with the environmental issues, the pollution, the more than 60% non-smokers health, the clean and indoor setting, the public health and the general condition of the population – while others are thinking of the well-being of the smokers. Most legislation is made to benefit the general group of non-smokers, while the administration and legal matters focus on the smoker themselves. It is astonishing to believe that you through political initiatives can prevent smokers from taking nicotine and gets them to stop smoking - you simply have to find a new way to give the millions of smokers a better and more safe way to get their daily nicotine. Of Course you at the same time should prevent new groups in the population to start adopting the nicotine pattern – but to aim at getting all users to terminate their smoking habit is not realistic.
Useful Technology
Breakthroughing new technology has given the possibility to reduce the passive smoking dramatically. By allowing consumers to smoke the e-cigarettes, e-cigars and e-pipes everywhere, you will open for the option of reducing the harmful expiration smoke from traditionally tobacco and substitute it with non-harmful steam from the smokers own process of adopting nicotine.
The technological construction should of course be safe and easy replaceable – the substance that is needed to simulate the flavour and taste need to be examined quite in-depth and the atomizing unit (the electro-thermal process) has to be able to work effectfull.
Harmless
The accumulated knowledge in the field of toxicology can unanimous state that the electronic cigarettes, cigars and pipes are harmless to the human body – except for the nicotine that the filters may have been saturated with. We are in a sense standing with a product that could revolutionize the smoking sector – if we let it. If the politicians really feel that they want to adopt the advantages of a healthier population – they should not hesitate to approve and accept the new way of smoking.
Challenging Problem
So, why do they not immediately adopt this opportunity? Well, the combined taxes of the traditional tobacco is immense high and need to be substituted with something else, the workplaces provided by the tobacco industry might be in danger and how to make a legislation regarding the nicotine contents, the control measures and the marketing of the products. Is it a product that will aim at quitting smoking – or a product to substitute the smoking habit? Many governments has a vision to make legislation that forbid the population to smoke in different places and with high taxes prevent the users to increase their smoking addiction – but they forget that the group already have been damaged by the tobacco industry for centuries.
Some Benefits
As there is no burning effect in the electronic cigarettes, there is no chance for getting tar and Monokabonixide and the harmful substances that causes cancer. 19% of smokers in a recently new survey indicated that they would change totally to the new technology when available, while 34% of the existing smoker never would dream of changing their habit. The remaining part would substitute to a certain extend their normal tobacco use with the electronic devises.
27% of all smokers told in the same survey that they smoked at their working place and that they smoked 3,7 times daily with an average work time consumption of 11 minutes per. smoke. Traditional smoking takes 6 minutes and the smoker uses in average 11 draws to smoke a normal cigarette. It is enormous extra resources that the smokers can give back to the working market.
Technological challenge
Throughout the industry a huge development takes place in a rapid speed and for most of the new found methods – it actually works for the consumers. However, time to market has become an issue. We see many short cigarettes that are introduced without the necessary test and quality assurance – there need to be procedure for this. Also large nicotine doses are introduced, without proper inspection and analyzing the consequences of this. A number of the products are missing local User Guides and only few vendors have expiration date and specification of the contents on their packagings. So the market has a lot to learn.
In Conclusion
The electronic cigarettes, cigars and pipes are here to stay – the penetration, however, will relay on the political will, the tobacco industry’s interest and the consumers desire to get rid of passive smoking.
